Imagine if you will this state of affairs:
I have said I will ban this seasons flu vaccine, sadly I am now unable to do that as they have been imported in bulk and available in doctors surgery nationwide.
However, in a desperate attempt to look like I am doing something, to placate the party members and to struggle to look competent, I guarantee to ban every other vaccine from now on without fail!
Ooops, didn’t see that H1N1 coming!

Isn’t this just what the conservatives (right) in the UK have just done with their little policy on Europe.
My argument can be stripped of it’s Euro content, it’s the fact that in desperation you just impose a blanket ban to try and cover up the single thing you failed to ban. That just stores up a mountain of problems when you need to go ahead with something later and then realise, woopsy, we blanket banned everything, shit, how do we get out of that now?!
